Want to lead a life like the apostles, full of power and authority? How about praying like they did? I’m thankful that we have a record of some of their prayers. You will notice they aren’t praying for bigger houses or cars, but for the advancing of God’s kingdom through believers. I know I want my prayers to more fully reflect these Biblical prayers. You can use them as models, paraphrasing them to fit your personality and flow. Start by slowly reading the Scripture, meditating on it and then pray it in your own words. Here’s some examples:
“And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.” Philippians 1:9-11
You can pray it personally:
Jesus, today I ask that You would fill me with Your love so that it overflows to others and that I would grow in knowing who You are. Strengthen my discernment so that I can choose the things that are best. Help me to be genuine in my faith that I may be unashamed when You come, unoffended at You or others. Fill me with the fruits of Your Spirit so that You are glorified today in my life. Amen.
Or pray it for others:
Jesus, I lift up to you, ________ and ask that they would be filled with Your love today to overflowing. May they come to know You in deeper, more intimate ways. Give ________ discernment to choose the best in their life, seeking You first above all others. May they have an authentic walk with you and be unoffendable all the days of their lives. I ask that You would fill them with Your righteousness always so that their lives reflect You and bring glory to You today. Amen.
