Courts of Heaven Prayers

A year or so ago, I was introduced to Robert Henderson’s teachings on the courts of Heaven and it had a profound impact in my prayer life.  For many years, there’s been a lot of emphasis in the church on spiritual warfare techniques that have been very powerful.  Yet, many feel not so victorious and often weary in the battle.  Coming to understand the court system of Heaven has led to praying differently.

Throughout Scripture are references to the legal system in heaven (Isaiah 33:22, Daniel 7:9, 10, 22; Luke 18:1-8, Hebrews 7:25) but we often miss them and the context for our lives today.  The protocol for a courtroom is different than that of the battlefield.  Learning to come to the courts of heaven first to receive the legal ground for the battle, means we have more victory – fighting smarter, not harder.

Praying in the courts of Heaven is simply coming to our Father as the Judge and honoring Him through praise and worship.  Then we present our appeal for help and ask Him to show us any area where the enemy  has legal rights that are blocking our prayer (see Daniel’s example in Daniel 9).  This may include generational issues, or our own person sin or the “witness” or our own mouths.  When we speak negatively, we give the enemy legal ground to block God’s will in our lives.  Whatever God shows us, we can then repent and receive the cleansing from Jesus’ blood.  Then we listen to hear God’s decrees for our victory and agree and declare with Him.  Next week I will share how to the Lord’s Prayer follows this model.

If you live in the Sacramento region, we will be having a conference this week on this very topic with Robert Henderson.  Go to  for more information!  Look forward to seeing you then!

Prayer Apps

give him 15

I love how technology can help us connect with one another and with God!  Here’s a new prayer app by Dutch Sheets called “Give Him 15”.  It’s a national call to spend at least 15 minutes a day praying for our country.  When you download the app, it gives you a short thought, some prayer points as well as a daily short prayer that we can be praying in unity.  These were developed by people all over the country from various streams, but coming together daily to pray a united prayer.  Please consider joining in!  I’ve copied in the prayer points for today:

First Thanksgiving

“Our harvest being gotten in, our Governor sent four men (bird hunting) so that we might…rejoice together after we had gathered the fruit of our labors.  Many of the Indians came amongst us and …for three days we entertained and feasted…by the goodness of God we are…far from want.”

Pilgrim Edward Winslow describes above the Pilgrim’s day of thanks after a long journey and a year so hard that over half of their numbers perished.  Instead of growing bitter, they held a feast, invited the neighbors who helped them survive, the Native Americans, and thanked God for their bounty.

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  •  Ask the Lord to forgive you when life is hard and you forget to thank Him for the blessings you have in the midst of pain.
  • Thank Him for opening your eyes to all that He does to care for you daily.
  • Ask the Lord to bless every person you can think of.  He cares for them like He cares for you.  Is there something kind you can do for a neighbor?

A prayer you can pray:

Dear Lord, thank You for giving me a thankful heart.  Forgive me when I forget how good You are to me, even though sometimes life is hard.  Help me to remember others who are in a difficult place.  If there is something I can do to help them, please show me how.  In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Today’s Decree:

I decree that You are good to me and taking care of me, even when life’s circumstances make it hard for me to see it.  Thank You, Lord!

52 Day Prayer Focus, Part 3

Continuing the 52-day prayer focus – 14 Days to triumph!  Focusing on meditating on God’s word and walking in His Spirit!

Day 1: Read, Meditate, and Memorize 1 Thess. 5:23. Be whole!  And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [separate you from profane things, make you pure and wholly consecrated to God]; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved sound and complete [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah).”

Day 2
: Read Genesis 1:26 through Genesis 3
. Satan wants you to believe that God is not directing you, but God created you to walk with you. The enemy also wants you to think that God is holding out on you. This is what he did to the Woman in the garden as he manipulated her desires. Ask God to break any manipulation that is aligned with your desires. Ask the Lord to let you hear Him in the cool of the day!

Day 3
: Read Psalm 37
. Be sure your desires are aligned correctly. Temptation is linked to desires that are not within God’s boundaries. Your desires must be sanctified to walk in the Spirit.

Day 4
: Re-read Genesis 2:7. Read John 20:20-22.
Let Him renew your spirit by the breath of His Spirit, and then allow Him to re-commission you. “Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath or spirit of life, and man became a living being.”  “So saying, He showed them His hands and His side.  And when the disciples saw the Lord, they were filled with joy (delight, exultation, ecstasy, rapture).  Then Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace to you!  [Just] as the Father has sent Me forth, so I am sending you.’  And having said this, He breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit!’”

Day 5
: Read Psalm 23
. This is a Psalm of Prosperity. Your path should be prosperous when you walk in the Spirit. Read this Psalm out loud three times! Psalm 23 comforts you in distress and affliction as He leads you in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.  In Hebrew, the word “path” is ‘agol, which means to be round or a cycle. He guides us in the cycles of righteousness.  This is linked with the timing of the Feasts.  Chag, or festival, means to make a cycle.  If we understand the feast, then we understand cycles.  We can be led properly, prosper and not have lack. If we stay in God’s timing, we prosper.  Walk in the Spirit on your PATH! Jehovah Rohi causes you to SEE your path!

Day 6
: Read Galatians 3:4-5 and Galatians 5, especially verse 16 and 25!
Look at the circumstances that you have been through and are going through. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you how He has worked and is working in you.  Feel His Spirit.  Enter into the fruit of His Spirit. Evaluate His fruit.  Walk and live in the Spirit.

Day 7
: Read and memorize Eph. 1:3-6.Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.” Look up into Heaven and see all your spiritual blessings for your bloodlines. Claim them all, even the ones other generations did not claim. Walk in a way that they will manifest.

Day 8
: Read Is. 55, and Mt. 16
. Lean not on your own understanding. His thoughts are not your thoughts. See from His perspective. His word will not return void. Notice how Peter operated. He had great revelation, and then his mind and emotions kicked in and were occupied by Satan. Ask the Lord to bring your mind and emotions under control.

Day 9
: Read Ezekiel 36 – 37.
As you read these chapters, know that the Lord is speaking and reiterating His promise for your future. He wants to break all scattering in your life. He wants to break all hope deferred. He wants you to recognize His power to perform His word!

Day 10
Read James 5, and Matthew 4. The Word of God tells us to submit ourselves to God, draw near to Him, and then resist the devil. As we worship and submit ourselves to a Holy God, we can come into intimate contact with Him. Even though we walk here on the earth in our worshipful submission, we ascend into Heaven. As we individually seek God and ascend into the Throne Room, we can hear the sound of Heaven in our spirit man on Earth. Be sure to deal with any area where you are not operating in submission. Resist Satan’s temptation in your wilderness. Remember, the Spirit of God led Jesus into the wilderness. Stop in the midst of your hard situation and see the Spirit’s leading.

Day 11
: Read Psalm 34, and Hebrews 1, especially verse 14. Praise God for the angels that are encamping around you. Declare that these ministering spirits will transcend to the natural realm from the spiritual realm. As we ascend in worship, we also know that a portal opens for angelic visitation. During our times of prayer and crying out to God, during those times when we worship with abandonment as David did, we enter the realm of the spirit. Angels help to bring messages and direct us. Don’t negate the angels around you!

Day 12
: Read Luke 10.
Ask the Lord to remove all distractions that are robbing the best for you and your family. Ask the Lord to cause your will to realign so that you choose the best that He has for you. Quit swatting at gnats. Ask the Lord to teach you about His BEST!

Day 13
Read Hebrews 4 – 5, and memorize Hebrews 5:14. Let the Word divide asunder your soul and spirit to know His will. Ask the Lord to release discernment in you.

Day 14
: Read Romans 8.
Ask the Lord to give you a new, triumphant spirit. Read this chapter three times. Ask the Lord for your spirit to be quickened by His Spirit.

52 Day Prayer Focus, Part 2

Continuing the 52 day prayer focus from Glory of Zion:

10 Days to Roll Away the Reproach of a Generation and Secure our Inheritance for the Future

Day 1: Read Joshua 3. There comes a time for your new beginning. Set yourself aside before the Lord to experience new a place of crossing into your promise.

Day 2: Read Numbers 14, Joshua 5 and 6. Praise God! Ask the Lord for the strategy of worship that will dethrone that which is invincible in your life and is stopping you from moving forward in your promise. Decree that every reproach of unbelief from the past generation that is connected to your life, your inheritance and your future will be “ROLLED AWAY”!

Day 3: Read 1 Sam. 30. This is a transition chapter. Declare that you will make it through your transition. The activities in this chapter released David into his next level of anointing. Especially notice verses 24-25. Receive new strength. Pursue and recover all! David had lost much but he inquired of the Lord and God gave him victory! He then gave to those that had helped him. Prepare a special offering.

Day 4: Read Zechariah 3 and 4. Declare a change of identity. Sin can stop God’s favor from resting on us. In this case, we exchange God’s favor for His disapproval. A reproach does not mean that we have lost our salvation but a reproach can hinder our future. A reproach can block the favor God longs to give us in some area of our lives because of the iniquity that has infiltrated the garment of identity that we wear. Until we make our lives right before God once again, we (and perhaps our descendants) will live under the effects of that reproach.

Day 5: Read John 14:21, John 16:7-9. As you worship, receive a spirit of revelation. Obey. Usually, He will tell you something very simple to do. There are many needs during this season, physically and emotionally. Ask the Lord to speak to you over how to give. As you give, you will receive revelation of who the Father is. Jesus ascended so the Helper (the Holy Spirit) could come to Earth on our behalf. Therefore, if we worship and ascend, we are promised that the Holy Spirit will fill our lives. He will bring conviction when we sin, open the way for us to experience our righteousness through faith, and condemn the devil on our behalf. Ask Him to fill you new and fresh.

Day 6: Read 2 Tim. 4:16-18, 2 Kings 6. Don’t allow the enemy to convince you that he is more powerful that the Lord. Open your eyes and see the angelic host around you. We can experience the Lord standing with us and strengthening us so that we might accomplish His will on Earth. We can experience the power of His ascension and deliverance from every evil work.

Day 7: Read Heb. 2. Meditate on Verse 9. Declare that the power of any voice of death over the personal vision of your life be broken. From His ascension, He demonstrated that glory, not death, is the final word of operation in our lives. Make declarations of faith. Only through worship do we ascend into a new faith dimension.

Day 8: Read I John 3, especially verse 8. Memorize I John 4:4. He came to destroy the works of the enemy. Greater is He in you than he that is in the world!

Day 9: Read 2 Chron. 20. The Lord has a strategy of TRIUMPH when your enemies mount up against you. God gives us strategies that are not of the wisdom of this world. The example He has presented to us is to send Judah first, not necessarily the wisest or the strongest. Let praise lead the way. Praise breaks through. Jehoshaphat was able to win the day by sending his praise team first. See the confederation of demonic enemies that are aligned against you.

Day 10: Read Ephesians 4. Meditate on vs. 17-24. Remove hidden bitterness and judgments against yourself and others.Put Off and now PUT ON!

Pictionary Prayer

Looking for a fun way to pray with your small group?  Here’s an idea a friend gave me – Pictionary Prayer!  Form two teams.  Have one person from the team think of a prayer need and draw while their team tries to guess.  When they do guess it, pause and pray.  Move on to the next team.  You can give a special prize to the team who guesses the most prayer drawings correctly, but ultimately everybody wins!

Prayer doesn’t need to be dry and boring!  Be creative and enjoy spending time with each other and with God.

Alphabet Prayers

Bored with the routine of family prayers?  Want to “spice up” small group prayer? Here’s a great prayer activity for groups!

Using the alphabet as a prayer prompt, the first person would take the letter “a” and think of something to pray for with that letter.  It could be a person (Annie) or a group (actors) or a problem (addictions) or a country (America) anything that prompts them to pray.  Then they would share their “a” word and pray a short sentence or two prayer based off that letter.  The next person takes the next letter.  Be creative and have fun!

B – Aunt Betty or the Beatles or Basketball players or Bosnia…

C – Carla or California or a friend with cancer or a coffee shop

You can stick with one category or mix it up and let it be a free for all.  You get the idea, now have some fun!

Prayers for Fatherlessness

Sporty Family

The statistics are staggering!  36.1 million youth come from a fatherless home.  These same homes account for:

63% of teen suicides

71% of school drop outs and teenage pregnancies

90% of homelessness and runaway youth – which often leads to sex trafficking

Fatherlessness lies at the root of most of the challenges, crime, poverty and other issues faced in our nation.  Just dealing with symptoms won’t solve the core problem.  We need to pray!

Here’s some prayers to consider praying:

  1. Humble ourselves and pray – 2 Chronicles 7:14
  2. Pray for men to connect with their Heavenly Father – “Our Father who art in Heaven…” Matt 6:9
  3. Pray for men to receive the “adoption of sons” – Galatians 4:5
  4. Pray for a turning of the hearts of fathers to the children and children to their fathers – Malachi 4:6
  5. Pray for restoration of the family unit – Joshua 24:15
  6. Pray for role models, mentors and father-figures to step up to influence and inspire fatherless youth – 1 Timothy 1:2
  7. Pray for breakthrough in racial, economic, and social barriers – Ephesians 2:14

Prayer of Agreement

Group of people holding hands in circle, low angle view

I love how simple Jesus puts things in Scripture! Matthew 18:19 reads “Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in Heaven.”

What an extravagant promise!  Do you believe it?  Sometimes we put conditions on it to explain why we don’t see the movement we desire.  But Jesus didn’t.

Interestingly, the word “agree” in Greek means to agree together in a bargain.  It also has the connotation of two musical instruments that are sounding in harmony.  I love that!  Jesus delights in the symphony of our prayers coming to Him in unity!

How little we understand the power of being “one” in agreement!  Genesis 11:6 “The Lord said, ‘Indeed the people are one and they all have one language….now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.”  This verse has always amazed me!  Nothing impossible to them because they were in agreement!  If only the church was truly united, what could happen?

Too often, unbelief in the simple Word of God clouds our ability to “sound” in harmony.  We might say the words, but our hearts doubt if it could really happen, giving off a sour, discordant note.

Let’s believe God.  What’s the desire of your heart?  Find someone to agree with you in faith.  Nothing is impossible with God.  Let the beautiful sound of your agreement arise to Heaven today!

National Day of Prayer

unnamed (1)

We are just a few days from the National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 7, 2015.  I hope you are planning to join a local gathering, but if not, you can watch online the national event by going to

Why a National Day of Prayer?  We desperately need a turning back to God in our nation, and not just for a day!  The problems and challenges we are faced with cannot be solved by a political system, a new election, or some good idea.  Only God can turn this nation back to His original intent and that only comes by our cooperation and partnership with Him through prayer.

You might think you are just one person and that it’s not really that important, but your voice matters!

This year’s theme is “Lord, hear our cry”.  For more information and free prayer guides, go to

The National Day of Prayer is a great time to connect, join as a body and pray together in unity.  If you are in the Sacramento region – consider meeting at the Capitol at 5:00pm with others to worship and pray.  Or join the Rock House of Prayer from 10am-12pm.  There’s also a prayer breakfast at William Jessup University that we always enjoy attending.  Hope to see you there!
